Success! We recently had a 2023 DV Lottery winner green card approved at the US Consulate Sofia, Bulgaria. The green card for the 2023 DV Lottery winner and family members was approved before the September 30, 2023 deadline to obtain an immigrant visa under the Diversity Visa (DV) program.

DV Lottery Program
Every year the US government makes available up to 55,000 immigrant visas (green cards) under the DV visa program to individuals from countries with historically low immigration rates to the United States. There is no cost to register for the DV program, but selectees who are scheduled for an interview are required to pay a visa application fee prior to making their formal visa application where a consular officer will determine whether to approve the visa.
In order to qualify for an immigrant visa under the DV Lottery program, you must:
- Qualify for the DV Lottery program. You can qualify if you are a native of one of the countries with historically low rates of immigration and you have at least a high school education or equivalent (generally a high school diploma) or 2 years of work experience within the past 5 years in an occupation that requires at least two years of training or experience perform. - Enter the DV lottery online during the online registration period. Each year the registration for the DV lottery is open for about a month between first week of October and until beginning of November. The exact dates vary from year to year but to find out more visit the Department of State website. Registration in the DV lottery is online, easy and free. You must save your submission confirmation to be able to check the results of the DV lottery later.
- Check the results of the DV lottery. You can check the results of the DV lottery starting in May the year after you apply by returning to dvprogram.state.gov and clicking on Entrant Status Check, and entering your unique confirmation number and personal information. The exact date the DV lottery results are released changes every year but typically the results are available starting in May the year after. You can visit dvprogram.state.gov to stay up to date.
- If you are selected in the DV Lottery, you must follow the instructions on the Department of State letter.
