Validity for E2 Investor Visa USA and E1 Trader Visa USA for Mexico citizens increased to 4 years or 48 months.
As of August 2020, the U.S. Department of State has increased the visa validity period for Mexican citizens applying for the E2 Investor Visa or E1 Treaty Trader Visa for the United States.
According to the U.S. Department of State website, citizens of Mexico can now be issued an E2 Investor Visa or an E1 Trader Visa for a maximum of 48 months (4 years), up from 12 months (1 year), for an increased processing fee.
The processing fee for Mexican nationals applying for a 4-year E2 Visa or E1 Visa at the U.S. General Consulate in Mexico is $296.
The E2 Investor Visa is a temporary visa for the United States that allows an investor to develop a business in the United States (start-up, franchise or business purchase) and bring their key employees to work for the business.
Similarly, the E1 Visa is a temporary visa that allows investors and their key personnel to come the U.S. for the purpose of carrying out international trade.
Spouses and children of E1 and E2 visa holders can join them in the United States.
Given the new change, now citizens of Mexico have two options when applying for the E2 Visa and E1 Visa at the U.S. Embassy and Consulates in Mexico.
One option is to apply for these visas for 12 months (1 year) and pay a lower processing fee of $42. A second option is to apply for 48 months (4 years) in these visa categories for a higher processing fee of $296.
The increase in validity period to 4 years for E2 Visa and E1 visa for Mexican nationals is an important change as it suggests an improved cooperation in reciprocal Mexican investor visa policies towards Americans.
Moreover, the new change benefits Mexican citizens who now can be granted a longer period of stay in the United States for up to 4 years, which is close to the maximum period granted to any country under the treaty visas. The maximum validity period for any country in the E1 or E2 visa categories is 5 years.
